General App Questions

Q1: What is Mechanic Connect and how does it work?
A: Mechanic Connect is a Jamaican-built digital platform that connects vehicle owners with verified garages and independent mechanics. Customers download the app, create an account, describe their issue, upload photos if needed, and either receive quotes or book directly from available service providers.

Q2: Is there a cost to use the app?
A: No. The app is free for customers to download and use. You only pay for the repairs or services you request.

Q3: Is Mechanic Connect available across all of Jamaica?
A: We are currently launching in the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA) including Kingston, St. Andrew, Portmore and Spanish Town, with plans to expand to other parishes.


Account & Registration

Q4: Why do I need an account and who can use the app?
A: An account allows you to save vehicle details, track service history, manage payments, and communicate securely with mechanics. Users must be 18 years or older.

Q5: How do mechanics and garages join the platform and why is verification required?
A: Mechanics and garages register through the Mechanic or Garage App and submit business and identification details. Verification helps maintain a trusted, professional marketplace and protects customers.


For Vehicle Owners

Q6: How do I request a mechanic or service?
A: Simply open the app, describe your issue, upload photos if needed, and set your location. You can either receive quotes from available providers or book directly from a garage or mechanic offering the service you need.

Q7: How does payment work? Is my money safe?
A: All payments are made inside the app and held securely. Funds are only released to the mechanic after you confirm the job is completed.

Q8: What if I am not satisfied with the repair?
A: Do not mark the job as complete in the app. Use the in-app chat to discuss the issue with the mechanic. If it cannot be resolved, contact our support team and we will review the matter.

Q9: Can I use my favorite mechanic again or invite one to the app?
A: Yes. You can rebook mechanics you like and invite others to join Mechanic Connect. All service providers must complete our registration and verification process.

Q10: Why can’t I see the mechanic’s phone number right away?
A: To protect privacy and ensure proper job tracking, all communication starts inside the app. Contact details become available once a job is confirmed.

Q11: Are there any hidden fees for me?
A: No. Customers do not pay any platform or booking fees. You only pay the mechanic’s quoted price. Please note that after physical inspection, a mechanic may revise a quote if additional issues are discovered.


For Mechanics & Garages

Q12: How do I get started as a mechanic or garage?
A: Download the Mechanic or Garage App, register your business details, and complete verification. Once approved, you can start receiving job requests. Optional subscription plans may be offered for enhanced features and visibility.

Q13: How and when do I get paid, and how does commission work?
A: Once the customer marks the job as complete, funds are released to your Mechanic Connect wallet after the platform commission is applied.

Mechanic Connect uses a fair, capped commission system:

– A minimum commission of JMD 500 applies to small jobs

– A maximum commission cap of JMD 25,000 applies to large jobs

– The effective commission rate decreases as job value increases, meaning bigger jobs pay a lower percentage overall

Early Partner Garages (first 50 garages) receive a discounted commission rate for their first 60 days. After 60 days, accounts automatically move to the standard commission structure.

Standard payouts to your Jamaican bank account are processed twice per week — every Wednesday and Friday.

If you need your money sooner, you may request a next-business-day payout, which will attract an early withdrawal processing fee.

Q13B: Why does the commission percentage change by job size?
A: To keep the platform fair for both small and large jobs. Small jobs require a minimum fee to cover platform costs, while large jobs benefit from a lower effective percentage and a maximum cap, so garages are never overcharged on big invoices.

Q14: What are the benefits for my garage or mechanic business?
A:

– Access to customers actively seeking service

– Less time spent on marketing and chasing payments

– Digital job and payment management

– Business profile and customer reviews

– More time to focus on repairs

Q15: What stops customers and mechanics from dealing outside the app?
A. Jobs done outside the app are not protected by our payment system, dispute process, or records. Repeated abuse may result in suspension or removal from the platform.

Q16: What if a customer unfairly refuses to approve a completed job?
A. Mechanic Connect provides a dispute review process. Our team will review chats, photos, and job details to help reach a fair resolution.


Parts & Supplies

Q17: Can I get parts through Mechanic Connect?
A: Yes. Parts sourcing is handled through OH-PEL AUTO LIMITED, our official parts partner, making it easier and faster to get reliable parts.


Privacy & Data Security

Q18: Is my personal information safe?
A: Yes. Your data is used only to provide services. We do not sell personal data, and payments are handled through secure systems.

Q19: How long do you keep my data and can I delete my account?
A: Some data is retained for legal, tax, and dispute resolution purposes. You may request account deletion through the app or by contacting support.
