Mechanic Connect is a service provided by OH-PEL AUTO LIMITED.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Mechanic Connect mobile application (“the app”), website, and related services (“Services”).

By using Mechanic Connect, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect two types of data:

1.1 Information You Provide to Us:

  • Account Information
  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Password (masked)
  • Role (Customer, Mechanic, Garage, or both)

Mechanic/Garage Verification:

To verify identity and qualifications, we may request:

  • Government ID (viewed only; we do not store ID images).
  • TRN (number only).
  • Business registration documents.
  • Professional certificates.
  • Garage location.
  • Live photo or inspection confirmation.
  • We store verification status, not copies of your ID.
  • Vehicle & Service Information.

Customers may provide:

  • Vehicle photos
  • Vehicle details (make, model, year, plate – optional)
  • Description of the issue
  • Audio/video uploads
  • Location (optional for roadside assistance)

Payment Information:

Through our payment processor (PowerTranz), you may provide:

  • Debit/credit card details
  • Wallet top-up amounts
  • Transaction history
  • Withdrawal requests

We do not store full card numbers.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the app, we may collect the following Device & Technical Information:

  • Device model
  • Operating system
  • App version
  • IP address
  • Network type
  • Crash logs
  • Usage Information
  • Pages/screens you access
  • Time spent in different sections
  • Features used

Location Information:

Only if permission is granted is used for:

  • Finding nearby mechanics
  • Job assignment
  • Roadside assistance
  • Garage mapping

You may remove the permissions at any time.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to operate and improve the app, enabling us to provide core services such as:

  • Create and manage accounts.
  • Match customers with mechanics.
  • Display quotes and service details.
  • Communicate service updates.
  • Facilitate roadside assistance.
  • Handle parts requests (OH-PEL AUTO Ltd only)

Payments & Wallet:

  • Process booking fees.
  • Process job payments.
  • Pay mechanics/garages.
  • Facilitate withdrawals and scheduled payouts.
  • Apply commission and early withdrawal fee (if selected).

Verification & Safety:

  • Confirm mechanic identity and qualifications.
  • Reduce fraud.
  • Maintain user trust.
  • Enforce Terms of Service.

Communication:

We may contact you via push notification or WhatsApp for:

  • Booking updates.
  • Account alerts.
  • Verification issues.
  • New features or promotions.

Customer Support:

To resolve complaints, disputes, and support requests.

Analytics & Improvements:

To improve app performance, features, and experience.

3. How We Share Information

  • We do not sell your personal data.

We may share data only under these conditions:

3.1 With Mechanics or Customers

  • Mechanics receive customer contact details for jobs.
  • Customers receive mechanic/garage contact details.

3.2 With Service Providers

We use trusted third parties for:

  • Payment processing (PowerTranz).
  • Hosting & data storage.
  • Customer support systems.
  • Analytics.
  • Fraud prevention.

All providers follow confidentiality obligations.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to:

  • Comply with Jamaican law.
  • Respond to lawful requests.
  • Protect safety, rights, or property.

4. Wallet, Payments & Financial Data

4.1 Payments

  • All payments are processed through third-party payment processors.
  • Mechanic Connect never stores full card data.

4.2 Wallet Activity

We store:

  • Wallet balance.
  • Top-up amounts.
  • Job earnings.
  • Commission deductions.
  • Withdrawal requests.
  • Payout history.

4.3 Early Withdrawal Fee

If you select instant withdrawal, the processing fee will be displayed before confirmation.

4.4 Fraud Monitoring

We monitor wallet activity to prevent:

  • Off-platform payments.
  • Fake jobs.
  • Chargeback abuse.
  • Identity fraud.

Violations may lead to suspension.

5. Ratings & Reviews

Mechanic Connect stores review and rating data to:

  • Promote trustworthy mechanics.
  • Improve service quality.
  • Protect the community.

Abusive or fake reviews may be removed without prior notice.

6. Your Privacy Choices

6.1 Access & Update Data

You may update/delete your profile information at any time in the app.

6.2 Location Settings

You may disable location services, however, some features may not work (e.g., roadside assistance).

6.3 Marketing Messages

You may opt out of marketing notifications, however, you may miss out on promotions and deals via this medium.

6.4 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through:

Settings → Account → Delete Account OR by emailing us from the verified email we have on file.

Once deleted:

Wallet balance must be withdrawn

Certain records (payments, disputes) may be retained as required by law

7. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your data. However, no system is 100% secure.

Whilst we apply as many security practices and procedures to ensure your data is safe, you use the app at your own risk.

8. Children’s Privacy

Mechanic Connect is not intended for anyone under the age of 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

9. International Data Transfers

If data is processed outside Jamaica by third-party service providers, those providers must comply with privacy and security standards.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy at any time. Major changes will be announced in the app.

Continued use means you accept the updated policy terms.
